Plugs fall out
Worn contacts can't grip a plug. Loose contacts can also heat up.
Plugs that fall out of the wall, dead switches, no GFCI in the bathroom, or too few outlets in the kitchen? Small electrical fixes make a big difference in daily life. If you are searching for an electrician to replace outlets near me, our licensed team installs and upgrades outlets, switches and dimmers across Marlboro and nearby towns.
Most device jobs are finished the same day. A warm or sparking outlet? Call our 24 hour emergency line instead.

Outlets and switches wear out with use. These are the signs we look for.
Worn contacts can't grip a plug. Loose contacts can also heat up.
A warm cover plate means a loose or overloaded connection. Stop using it.
Broken faces or brown marks are a shock and fire risk.
Outlets or switches that cut in and out usually have a loose wire.
Old two-prong outlets can't safely take three-prong plugs.
Power strips everywhere? New outlets are safer than daisy-chained cords.
The right outlet in the right place makes a home safer and easier to live in.
| Outlet type | What it does | Where it's used |
|---|---|---|
| GFCI outlet | Cuts power in a fraction of a second if current leaks to ground | Kitchens, baths, garages, basements, laundry areas, outdoors |
| Tamper-resistant outlet | Built-in shutters keep small objects out | Required for new and replaced outlets in homes |
| USB / USB-C outlet | Charges phones and tablets without a bulky adapter | Kitchens, bedrooms, home offices |
| 20 amp outlet | Handles heavier countertop appliances | Kitchen counters and workshop areas |
| Weather-resistant outlet with in-use cover | Stands up to rain and snow, even with a cord plugged in | Patios, decks, garages and holiday lighting |
| 240 volt outlet | Powers large appliances and some EV chargers | Dryers, ranges, workshops. See dedicated circuits |

Need an outlet behind the TV, on a kitchen island or in the garage? We run new wiring to the spot with small, neat openings and connect it to a circuit with room to spare.
If the circuit is already busy, we may suggest a new one. A heavy appliance like a microwave, freezer or space heater often needs its own dedicated circuit.
If there's no ground wire in the box, we can protect the outlet with a GFCI or run new grounded wire. Learn more on our whole house rewiring page.
GFCI outlets save lives. Here's where the current code wants them.
New Jersey enforces the 2020 National Electrical Code. It requires GFCI protection for outlets in places where water and electricity can meet, including:
Press the TEST button. The outlet should click off. Press RESET to restore power. If it doesn't trip, or won't reset, it needs replacing.
Newer code also calls for AFCI protection on many living-area circuits. AFCIs watch for dangerous sparking inside wires. We add them at the panel or at the first outlet when circuits are extended or replaced.
Swapping a device looks simple. The wiring behind it is where problems hide.
Homes from about 1965 to 1973 may have aluminum circuits that need special connectors. See aluminum wiring repair.
Many older outlets were wired by pushing wires into holes on the back. We move them to the screw terminals for a tighter, cooler connection.
Some kitchen and multi-wire circuits share a neutral. Mixing them up can cause GFCI and AFCI trips or overheating.
We check the wire ends for brown or brittle insulation and trim back to clean copper before reconnecting.
These are the details that keep a new outlet from becoming a repair call later.
A modern switch can do far more than turn lights on and off.

Old dimmers made for incandescent bulbs can make LEDs buzz or flicker. We install LED-compatible dimmers matched to your bulbs.
Smart switches from brands like Lutron and Leviton let you control lights from your phone, on a schedule or by voice. Some need a neutral wire in the box. We check before you buy.
Want to turn the hallway or stair lights on and off from both ends? We wire and troubleshoot multi-location switches.
Adding new lights at the same time? See recessed lighting installation.

Many do. Some models work without one. We check your switch box before you choose a model.
